Meet the Team

  • Anna graduated from the University of Otago with a LLB (hons) and was admitted in 2000. She spent two years as a judges clerk before joining Chapman Tripp’s litigation team in Wellington.

    In 2004, she moved to London and worked at Slaughter & May and Denton Wilde Sapte. After returning to New Zealand and starting a family, Anna worked in the commercial and regulatory teams at Vector before commencing practice as a barrister sole in 2016.

    Since 2016, Anna has practiced as a junior to Matthew Casey KC, primarily in general civil, public, and administrative litigation.

    Anna has experience at the District Court, Land Valuation Tribunal, High Court, and Court of Appeal. She is also experienced at representing clients in mediation and other forms of settlement negotiations.

    • Successful claim for breach of a GST warranty under an agreement for sale and purchase of land.

    Silverwood Corporation Ltd v Minister of Land Information [2022] NZLVT 1, and [2022] NZHC 3488 (junior counsel)

    • Successful compensation claims for acquisition of land in connection with the Transmission Gully motorway.

    Waterfall Development Ltd v Hadley [2022] NZHC 2221 (junior counsel)

    • Successful strikeout of a proceeding alleging blackmail and extortion.

    Aztek Ltd v Attorney - General [2018] NZHC 1839, and [2020] 3 NZLR 698 (CA)

    • Ultimately successful challenge to LINZ’s decision not to offer land back to a defunct company pursuant to Section 40 Public Works Act 1981.

  • Asher graduated from Auckland University with an LLB/BA and was admitted in 2002. In 2004 she obtained a Masters of Law (1st Class Honours).

    In March 2010 Asher joined Matt’s practice as a junior barrister having previously worked in Chapman Tripp’s resource management team for 9 years. She brought with her a wealth of experience and has proven herself to be an invaluable asset to Matt’s practice.

    Asher has extensive knowledge of the Resource Management Act, Public Works Act, Local Government Act and related legislation.

    Asher has appeared at Council hearings and as junior counsel in the High Court and Court of Appeal. She has represented clients in Environment Court mediations and less formal negotiations.

    She is experienced in drafting appeals to the Environment Court and High Court, drafting legal submissions for all Court levels, and being witnesses for Council, Environment Court and High Court hearings.

Asher Davidson
